RightWisconsin Editor James Wigderson joined WTMJ’s Steve Scaffidi on Wednesday to discuss the results from Tuesday’s election. Joining the conversation, Milwaukee defense attorney Dan Adams to represent the Democratic side of the discussion.
Among the topics discussed: the results of the governor’s race and what happened. Wigderson pointed out that while Governor Scott Walker’s campaign went after Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers on failing to fire a teacher who watched pornography in the classroom, the campaign never went after Evers’ record of not doing anything about the state’s failing schools.
“They didn’t ever tie the failing schools of Milwaukee to Tony Evers,” Wigderson said. “And that’s a failure going back to, not just this race, also to Tony Evers’ races for Superintendent of Public Instruction. He’s never had a serious challenge on those ground and it’s kind of a failure on Republicans’ part to seize the education issue.”
Wigderson said the effort made by the Walker campaign to fight on the education issue was the wrong way to do it. “Walker tried to do it at the end, but he tried to do it by trying to outbid Evers with cash for schools, and you’re never going to outbid the Democrats by trying to promise to spend more,” Wigderson said.
Wigderson, Adams and Scaffidi also talked about Milwaukee’s last-minute absentee ballots, different sides of the “Trump Effect,” Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s victory over state Sen. Leah Vukmir (R-Brookfield), healthcare as an issue, pent-up Democratic anger, and the effect of the Baldwin-Vukmir race on the other campaigns.
