WITI-TV, the Fox Affiliate in Milwaukee, has taken their anchor Ted Perry off the air Monday night because of a tasteless joke on Facebook, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s gossip columnist Dan Bice. In the Facebook post, reposted in multiple locations on social media, Perry said, “2020 takes Alex Trebek but leaves Mitch McConnell? Just end already.”

Perry took down the post and apologized promptly, which is where this should end. Given his long history of service to the community, I would sincerely hope that he is back on the air Tuesday evening.

Republicans trying to make a big deal out of this should ask themselves, “Do we believe in ending ‘cancel culture’ or not?” Because if conservatives are going to embrace “cancel culture,” anyone who has made a joke about President-Elect Joe Biden’s possible death before the end of his term should delete their Facebook account right now.

As for Perry’s liberal politics, does anyone think getting rid of Perry will cause the local Fox affiliate to hire a conservative to replace him? So what would anyone gain by Perry being fired?

Besides, do you think Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) cares? Seriously? So are you going to go out of your way to be outraged and offended on behalf of someone who really doesn’t care?

So let’s save our collective social media outrage for something really important, like whether boneless wings are better than bone-in wings or if you can put ketchup on a hot dog.
