Governor Scott Walker announced Monday his choice for the new secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, former state Representative Dan Meyer. Meyer represented the 34th District in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2001 to 2013. Before that he was mayor of Eagle River, Wisconsin, from 1997 – 2001.
In a statement from the governor’s office, Meyer said, “Our state is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, and we will work to responsibly protect them and ensure they remain a source of recreation, tourism, economic growth, and rich natural history now and for our children.”
The appointment was praised by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce:
“WMC and our members thank Gov. Walker for selecting Dan Meyer as the next DNR Secretary. Meyer – a former state representative, mayor and chamber of commerce executive director – has a unique background that makes him well-prepared to run the agency. The business community looks forward to working with him in his new role.”
Meyer replaces Cathy Stepp who left for a position with the Environmental Protection Agency in August.
