Dear Senator Baldwin,

Hundreds of thousands of Americans are marching on Washington today. No, they won’t wear those knit pink hats. They won’t take to the streets in a vulgar, offensive manner. And they won’t demand government handouts of contraception or the right to murder.

At the March for Life, people are boldly sharing the inspiring and positive message of life, family, adoption, and opportunity. Wisconsinites have taken planes, buses and caravans to march to the Supreme Court in the middle of January ever since the disastrous Roe v. Wade ruling was handed down 45 years ago. They’ve been there every single one of the nearly 20 years you’ve allegedly represented Wisconsin in D.C.

But you haven’t listened to them.

Instead, you take the calls from EMILY’s List every time they want to make a campaign donation. You rely on bogus identity politics justifying that you are for “women’s health” all the while Wisconsin baby girls are killed in the womb. And you cozy up to your co-conspirators at Planned Parenthood who want to profit off the murder of unborn babies and sale of their body parts.

Luckily, in Wisconsin, the abortion rate of 5.2 per 1,000 women is less than half of the national rate. Grassroots advocacy groups, crisis pregnancy centers, churches, friends and families have all worked together to be there for women who have unplanned pregnancies. Their efforts have caused the abortion rate to drop significantly.

I’ve always been pro-life. As a nurse, my entire career has been spent saving lives, and as a policymaker, I have also listened to the inspiring stories about hope and life.

So, when Republicans gained control of the Legislature and the governor’s office in 2011, I worked with my colleagues to ensure state taxpayers were no longer subsidizing the abortion industry at Planned Parenthood. We worked to protect unborn babies who are old enough to feel pain from the excruciating torture of being ripped limb from limb. We also worked to ensure mothers are well-informed of the decisions they make when sadly considering whether to have an abortion.

All the while, you’ve been sitting from your ivory tower in Washington plotting with Cecile Richards to undermine Wisconsin’s efforts to protect life.

I am continually amazed that you support government intervention to end global warming or climate change or whatever Al Gore’s buzzword is these days, but you will not intervene when it comes to protecting human life in the womb. I’d encourage you to look at the scientific research that increasingly confirms what I’ve known my entire life: Unborn babies are humans.

Life isn’t a disease that should be prevented through abortion. It should be cherished and kept safe.

I cannot stand idly by while you promote policy that prioritizes a woman’s right to “health care” (which certainly shouldn’t include elective abortions) over a baby’s right to not be killed. Unborn babies are humans who have the same God-given rights and are owed the same protections under the Constitution that we enjoy. Abortion is murder and should be prevented at all costs because it is against our country’s founding principle of life.

Senator Baldwin, it’s time for your platitudes about “women’s rights” and “health care” to stop. Wisconsin deserves a senator who listens to its citizens and will protect the right to life.

Sincerely,

Leah Vukmir
