Governor Tony Evers (D-Scrooge) showed up at the Capitol on Friday ready to extol the virtues of “science” and throw the switch on what he is calling the “holiday tree.”
Scott Bauer of the Associated Press (AP) wondered if there would be protesters.
But, as the AP reported later, the Christmas Tree didn’t need people waving signs to protect the Christian symbol. All it took was a few voices of children.
“Evers’ administration held a ceremony Friday to turn on the lights hanging on the tree,” the AP reported. “The Medford High School Concert Choir opened the ceremony by singing ‘O Christmas Tree’ and ‘O Come All Ye Faithful.'”
Evers and his DNR Secretary praised the “holiday tree” for the science lesson given by the ornaments. After trying to make a political point about climate change with a Christmas Tree, Evers deserves a lump of coal in his stocking.
Of course, this love of science is only a matter of convenience. Evers is more than willing to ignore scientific research when it comes to the value of school choice when it conflicts with his worship of the teachers union label. When voucher schools and independent charter schools are actually outperforming public schools when it comes to teaching comparable students, Evers wants to cut their funding. Helping minority children find better schools? Bah, humbug!
After Evers praised science and talked about the “holiday season,” the choir closed the ceremony with “Carol of the Bells,” according to the AP.

It’s as if the Whos of Whoville had showed up holding hands to thwart the Grinch (D-Madison).
We’re not big fans of hyping “the War on Christmas.” When someone says “Happy Holidays,” we don’t believe you should be offended. There are plenty of holidays around Christmas worth celebrating, and there are at least two Christmases. If Mrs. Maisel can sing White Christmas (by Irving Berlin), a few people can be a little less sensitive.
On the other hand, maybe so many Christians wouldn’t be concerned about a War on Christmas if Democratic politicians like Evers weren’t so determined to fight one. Apparently the only way a state Democratic office holder will ever mention Christmas again is if they’re imagining the Virgin Mary having an abortion.
The good news is, despite the silliness of liberal Democrats being unable to utter the C-word, Friday’s singing proved that Christmas is still winning. No matter what Evers and his allies proclaim, the tree in the Capitol Rotunda is still a Christmas Tree.
