JFC Votes to Include Full Repeal of Prevailing Wage in the Budget

[Madison, Wis.] – Yesterday, the Joint Finance Committee voted affirmatively, 12-4, to include a full repeal of Wisconsin’s prevailing wage law in the budget.

“I applaud the efforts of the Joint Finance Committee to put the full repeal of prevailing wage back into the budget” said Rep.  Rob Hutton (R-Brookfield). “I, along with several of my colleagues, have been pushing for a full repeal over the past several years. Taxpayers should be encouraged that Joint Finance followed through with this bold reform. This reform allows the market to determine construction costs, instead of government, allowing taxpayer dollars to be stretched further.”

Last session, we introduced legislation to repeal the prevailing wage law. Through the actions of various legislators and stakeholders the prevailing wage law was repealed for all local governments. This session, we reintroduced this legislation to complete the full repeal of prevailing wage after it was removed from the Governor’s proposed budget.
