State Rep. Dana Wachs, D-Eau Claire, announced Monday he was running for governor. “I think I’m something different,” Wachs told the Associated Press. “We can make people the focus of government policy rather than special interests.”
Wachs joins what could be a crowded field of Democrats vying for their party’s nomination. Milwaukee businessman Andy Gronik and political unknown Bob Harlow have declared. Mike McCabe, Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, and DPI Superintendent Tony Evers have filed the necessary paperwork and will probably announce this fall. Former state Rep. Brett Hulsey, former state party chairman Matt Flynn, current state Rep. Gordon Hintz and Madison Mayor Paul Soglin are also considering running.
The announcement has been expected for some time from Wachs, a trial attorney. The Republican Party of Wisconsin has already hit Wachs for his profession and were ready with another campaign mailer to go with Wachs’ announcement.

Wachs would undo Act 10, Governor Scott Walker’s reform of collective bargaining for public employees that has saved the state over $5 billion.
Walker is expected to announce his candidacy for re-election this fall.
