Rep-elect. Tom Tiffany (WI-7) resigned from the Wisconsin Senate on Monday. He will be sworn in as the congressman for Wisconsin’s 7th district on Tuesday. (You can watch the ceremony on C-SPAN.)

Tiffany won a special election May 12, 57% to 43%, to fill the vacancy created when former Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) resigned last September. His opponent, Wausau School Board member Tricia Zunker (D), announced Monday she is running for the Democratic nomination again in August.

The following is the statement from Tiffany regarding his resignation.

“Later today I will resign from the Wisconsin State Senate. I want to thank the people of the 12th Senate District for putting their faith in me to represent their voices in Madison. It has been an honor to work for them, and I am grateful for having the opportunity to serve in the Wisconsin Legislature.

“When I was first elected to the State Assembly in 2010, lawmakers faced a $3.6 billion budget deficit, taxes and fees were high and confidence was low for small business owners. Over the years, Legislative Republicans turned that deficit into a surplus, cut taxes by more than $13 billion, froze tuition for hard-working families, defended our 2nd Amendment, and protected the unborn.

“I’d like to thank my wife, Chris, and our daughters, Karlyn, Lexie, and Katherine, for all their love and support. I served in the State Senate to pave the way for a better future for my daughters and for everyone’s children and grandchildren, and I remain committed to that goal.

“Thanks to Representatives Mary Felzkowski, Jeff Mursau, and Rob Swearingen who have served their districts with distinction and who have fought alongside me for the Northwoods, our values, and our way of life. Also, thanks to my legislative colleagues who work hard on behalf of their districts. I wish each one of you the best as you work to ensure your constituents are served well in Madison.

“Special thanks to my staff who have worked so diligently over the years on behalf of the 12th Senate District.”
