What They’re Saying About Wisconn Valley

“An international game-changer…”
“A major leap forward…”
“Big momentum for our industry…”
“The likes of which we have never seen here…”

MADISON – Foxconn Technology Group is receiving international attention for its plans to invest $10 billion to create 13,000 jobs and a 20 million square foot high-tech manufacturing campus in Wisconsin. The company’s investment is the largest greenfield investment by a foreign-based company in U.S. history as measured by jobs, and it is estimated to create 22,000 more indirect and induced jobs, along with 10,000 direct construction jobs annually for each of the next four years. This is what they’re saying…

Julia Taylor, president of the Greater Milwaukee Committee: “To say this is a game changer is an understatement. Milwaukee lost 45,000 jobs coming out of the 1970s and the opportunity to gain this level of opportunity is generationally transformative. It can rebuild Milwaukee’s economy and offer significant economic mobility for those who are unemployed and underemployed.” (Shafer, D. (2017, August 1). Mike Fabishak, CEO of Associated General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee: “This is going to be some big momentum for our industry. I certainly haven’t seen anything like it during my 30-year tenure in construction.” (Barrett, R. (2017, July 30). Rebecca Blank, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison: “Today’s decision by Foxconn Technology Group, a top international manufacturer, to locate a plant in Wisconsin is a major leap forward for our state’s economy. It also illustrates the importance of a culture of innovation, along with a strong public research university, to regional economic development.” (Blank, R. (2017, July 26). Statement from Chancellor Rebecca Blank on Foxconn announcement.)

Van Wanggaard (R-Racine): “This isn’t just a regional or national story. It is an international game-changer. We now have hard evidence that Wisconsin is a place where companies want to do business, rather than flee.” (Shafer, D. (2017, August 1). Griselda Aldrete, president of Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee: “It definitely puts Wisconsin on the map. It’s definitely a game-changer for Wisconsin, but it would not just be a win for our state, but it would also be a win for the overall Midwest known for a manufacturing hub.” (Shafer, D. (2017, August 1). Foxconn in Wisconsin: How would the state’s big win affect the region? Milwaukee Business Journal.)

Dan Steininger, co-founder of BizStarts: “Foxconn will have a supply chain the likes of which we have never seen here.” (Barrett, R. (2017, July 30). Foxconn supply chain could bring opportunities to Wisconsin businesses. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.)

Dan Thielen, chief of secondary school transformation for the Racine Unified School District: “We’re here to support them and it’s good for the whole community. It’s going to provide so many opportunities for this region.” (Torres, R. (2017, July 30). Area schools prepare for Foxconn. Racine Journal Times.)
