Speaker Vos Announces Assembly Timeline on Foxconn Bill
Madison…Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) joined his colleagues at a media availability today to announce the chamber’s timeline for the special session legislation regarding the Foxconn development. The state of Wisconsin recently entered into an agreement to have the Taiwanese company build a $10 billion LCD manufacturing plant, employing 13,000 workers, in southeast Wisconsin. The project is estimated to have at least a $7 billion annual economic impact on the state.
“We welcome the opportunity to take up legislation that will pave the way for one of the largest manufacturing campuses in the world,” said Speaker Vos.
The special session of the Wisconsin State Legislature officially began today. A public hearing will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Assembly Committee on Jobs and the Economy, which is chaired by Rep. Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee). A committee vote on the legislation will be held the following week. Speaker Vos would like to have the Assembly vote on the bill in mid-August.
“Foxconn moving here puts our state on a path to becoming the destination for high-tech design and manufacturing in North America,” said Rep. Neylon. “It provides yet another example of Wisconsin continuing to follow our motto of, ‘Forward.’”
“We will ensure the public has adequate time to review the bill, address any concerns and have the jobs created as quickly as we can without harming the environment,” Speaker Vos.
