House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI01) announced on the Jay Weber Show on WISN on Monday his endorsement of Bryan Steil as his potential replacement as the Representative in Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district.
“What I see in him is a very smart, committed conservative,” Ryan said. “He’s going to be effective. He’s an optimistic problem solver and I think he’s exactly the kind of person that will do a great job representing the 1st congressional district.”
Ryan also explained why it was important for him to endorse a candidate now rather than wait for the August primary.
“Given the fact that Obama’s Organization for America is targeting this district, I really think it’s important that we unify so we can win this district,” Ryan said.
Steil is a former staff member for Ryan. He is currently General Counsel at Charter NEX Films and a member of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.
In addition to Ryan, Steil also announced endorsements from Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI05), Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI07) and Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI06) on Monday.
“Bryan Steil has the intellect, vision, community involvement, and grassroots credentials to be an independent and effective leader in Congress,” Sensenbrenner said in a statement Monday. “That is why I endorse his candidacy in the Republican primary for Wisconsin’s First Congressional District.”
Duffy posted on Twitter that he was looking forward to Steil joining him in Congress.
Excited for @BryanSteilforWI to join me in Congress to fight for commonsense Wisconsin values & a strong economy! He will be a great voice for southeast Wisconsin.
