Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) is still not retiring. According to the Associated Press, Ryan told his Republican colleagues he has no intention of stepping down as Speaker of the House nor leave Congress after next year’s election, despite a report in Politico that said otherwise.

In a closed-door meeting with rank-and-file members on Tuesday, Ryan indicated that it made no sense to leave “when we’re winning and have the momentum.”

That’s according to Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia. Republicans responded with applause and a standing ovation.

RightWisconsin reported last week that there was no foundation to the Politico story, and the other media reporting Ryan’s retirement were merely quoting the Politico story. We now return our readers to the annual watch of Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) who is also not retiring.
