As the debate is expected to heat up over lifting Wisconsin’s moratorium on sulfide mining, Florence County Director of Economic Development Wendy Gehlhoff spoke with Media Trackers Communications Director Jerry Bader on Friday about how vital the resumption of mining would be to her region.
A public hearing on a bill co-sponsored by Senator Tom Tiffany and Representative Rob Hutton will get a hearing in Ladysmith next week. Environmentalists already have launched an offensive against the bill.
Gehlhoff told Bader that officials in Wisconsin’s northwoods understand that preserving natural resources for tourism and other reasons is vital. But, she says, Wisconsin can have both tourism and mining. You can hear the interview here:
