Rep. Hutton Encourages Senate to Take Up Apprenticeship Ratio Legislation

MADISON – Last week the Assembly passed apprenticeship ratio legislation that would statutorily set the default apprenticeship ratio for all skilled trades at one apprentice to one journey worker.

“I am encouraged by the Assembly taking the lead on this important pro-economic growth legislation,” said Representative Rob Hutton (R-Brookfield). “With the continued surge in building projects in Wisconsin and the pending development surrounding Foxconn, we are seeing an explosion of skilled trade jobs.”

“Many companies are reporting shortages of workers already and the situation will only continue to grow worse if this hindrance is not addressed. This legislation would remove a barrier to entry for individuals seeking a career in the skilled trades and allow employers the opportunity to bring on more workers.”

“The Assembly has acted on this and now I encourage the Senate to bring this pro-worker legislation to the floor to debate its merits at the earliest opportunity.”
