As more people get to know Gov. Tony Evers, more people say they don’t like him.

A new Marquette Law School Poll shows Evers’ disapproval rating jumped 15 percent since January.

Poll director Charles Franklin wrote Wednesday that after three months in office, Evers’ disapproval rating stands at 37 percent. In January, 22 percent of people asked said they did not like the job he was doing.

More people say they like Evers as well. But Franklin said the governor’s approval rating increased just eight percent from January until now, from 39 percent to 47 percent.

Franklin noted in the poll that the change comes from more people making up their minds about the new governor.

Fifteen percent [of people] say they don’t have an opinion,” Franklin wrote. “In January, 38 percent lacked an opinion.”

A few more people are also souring on the direction of the state.

Franklin said pollsters asked people about the “state of the state.”

“Fifty-two percent of respondents say the state is headed in the right direction, while 40 percent say it is off on the wrong track,” Franklin wrote. “In January, 57 percent said the state was going in the right direction and 33 percent said it was on the wrong track.”

The Marquette Law School Poll also asked about presidential candidates and their support in Wisconsin.

Among Democrats, Bernie Sanders is leading the pack. Thirty two percent of people asked picked Sanders as their first choice. Another 39 percent said he would be an acceptable choice.

Former Vice President Joe Biden is more appealing to more Democrats.  Just 29 percent said Biden was their first choice, but 43 percent said he would be an acceptable choice.

Biden had an overwhelming lead in Marquette’s October poll.

Franklin wrote that the Marquette Law School Poll is the most extensive statewide polling project in Wisconsin history. This poll interviewed 800 registered Wisconsin voters by landline or cell phone, April 3-7. The margin of error is +/-4 percentage points for the full sample.
