There Will Be a Primary to Replace Sean Duffy

On Tuesday morning, Retired Army Captain Jason Church announced his candidacy for the upcoming special election to fill the vacant seat for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District.

“In 2012, I answered the call to serve my country and I am proudly doing so again today,” said Church. “Wisconsin’s 7th District is made up of hardworking Americans who understand sacrifice and caring for
their neighbors in need. They rallied around me when I came home from Afghanistan and it would be my honor to return the favor and fight for them in the United States Congress.”

A Menomonie, WI native and former UW – La Crosse Football player, Church had been serving as an aide to US Senator Ron Johnson. As a part of his campaign kickoff, Church released a short video, describing his military service, including a detailed account of the IED attack that took both of his legs. He stressed his call to service, his non-political background said his goal is to “do things right,” serve four terms “and then be done.”

Church joins Wisconsin State Sen. Tom Tiffany as the only announced Republican candidates. Several Democrats and a few Republicans are also rumored to be mulling a run but none have made the plunge, save for Tiffany and Church

The Primary will be held on the Monday between Christmas and New Years, thanks to a bizarre proclamation Governor Evers made Monday.
