A new survey shows strong support for a new traffic lane on I-94 in Milwaukee. Public Opinion Strategies conducted a poll of 500 voters in Milwaukee and Waukesha County and found 73 percent of those surveyed in Milwaukee County and 67 percent in Waukesha County support adding a lane in each direction to ease traffic congestion despite the $1 billion price tag. A majority of those polled oppose a less expensive $850 million plan that would not include an extra lane.
The survey was conducted April 6-8 for the I-94 East-West Econ Connect coalition and has a margin of error of +/- 4.38 percent.
The survey found broad support for the additional lane on I-94 from all segments of those polled.
Despite a perceived preference among Republicans for more road spending, the survey actually found more support for the extra lane from Democrats (76%) than Republicans (59%). Support for the freeway expansion is almost equal among white voters (71%) and African Americans (76%).
