Common Sense Wisconsin, a new organization to promote public policy in Wisconsin, just added a new executive director that will be familiar to readers of RightWisconsin.
Joe Handrick, a former member of the Wisconsin Assembly and current staff member for Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester), is joining Common Sense Wisconsin starting in June.
“It’s been my honor to serve the citizens of the North and all of Wisconsin through my public service,” Handrick said in a statement released Wednesday. “Common Sense Wisconsin will also help this state by championing innovative, effective policies, and I’m excited to build and lead this team.”
Handrick is probably best known by the political media in Wisconsin and RightWisconsin readers for his election-night number crunching. Armed with past election data, Handrick posts on Twitter his analysis of the vote totals as they come in.
But Handrick also has experience in government as a former Town Chairman of Minocqua, heading the Equal Rights and Unemployment Insurance divisions under former Governor Scott Walker, and as an aide to former Governor Tommy Thompson.
“We are incredibly pleased to bring Joe Handrick on board to help guide our young, eager organization as we work to improve Wisconsin government,” said CS Wisconsin, Inc. Board Member Jason Plante, in a statement Wednesday. “Joe Handrick is not only a respected political figure and data analyst, he brings a vast amount of front-line public policy experience to the table as well.”
Under Handrick, Common Sense Wisconsin will be focused on a “3 E agenda” of efficiencies, education reform and election integrity this legislative session:
Efficiencies
Improve access to and delivery of services aimed at improving the quality of life for Wisconsin residents. Government need not be big, but it must work.Education reform
A foundational element of a healthy society is a strong educational environment that maximizes parental involvement and learning options. Wisconsin should invest in students, not systems. Our laws and regulations should foster innovation and reward success.Election integrity
Wisconsinites must have faith in the process by which they elect their representatives. We neither accept baseless accusations of fraud, nor the willful refusal of regulatory agencies to enforce Constitutionally-sound election laws.
