David French, a senior fellow at the National Review Institute, spoke to a full room at the Green Bay Distillery near historic Lambeau Field about the fight for free speech on campus. French said the event should have been called, “How a German Philosopher and Angry Millenials Are Ruining All Our Lives.”

The German philosopher Herbert Marcuse, French explained, gave the current movement to end free speech on our college campuses the intellectual start. When colleges enacted speech codes in the 1980s and 90s, free speech advocates were able to beat them back. But then the left came up with intersectionality, and now the culture of silencing conservatives on college campuses is advancing again.

French began his remarks by offending Green Bay Packer fans and refusing to check his SEC privilege.

“It’s a real treat to be here. This is what I would say is the northern center of football in the world,” French said. “The true center of football is the Southeastern Conference.”
