Judge Rebecca Dallet needs support from Tim Burns voters, but apparently not so much that she’s willing to embrace his endorsement.

A full week after the Associated Press reported Burns’ endorsement, the most apparent mention of him on Dallet’s website is a February 5 entry that reads, “Judges, Commissioner, DA endorse Rebecca Dallet…say Burns ‘Not Qualified’.”

While Dallet views Burns as unqualified, she’s ready to forgive and forget when it comes to several Burns supporters.  Her campaign yesterday announced the endorsement of former Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton, former Congressman Dave Obey, State Senator Jennifer Shilling, State Representative Gordon Hintz, Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson, Appeals Court Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg, and former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.

Dallet allowed that she was “flattered to receive the endorsement of so many” supporters of the “unqualified” Burns. Her campaign said the “endorsement of these Wisconsin leaders gives this campaign the momentum to win…”

It seems a smart move for Dallet to ignore the Burns endorsement. Why remind independent and conservative backers that she’s supported by a far-left partisan?

Several things are striking about the endorsements announced yesterday. Political star-power is not the first thing that comes to mind when one hears the names Barbara Lawton and Dave Obey. The support of two-time loser Joanne Kloppenburg is yet another reminder that Dallet backers are eager to elect a justice who will let political policy preferences trump the rule of law. Or, as Dallet would say, that “rule of law garbage.”
