Randy Bryce, aka the “Iron Stache,” has lost his campaign spokesman to Hollywood. Bryce attracted Hollywood support during his campaign to unseat House Speaker Paul Ryan in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, but now spokesman Lauren Hitt has chosen the real thing by representing Sex in the City star Cynthia Nixon.

Chris Martin, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, was not surprised at the news.

“Who can blame her?” Martin said. “Imagine working for a guy who spent his money on fake Twitter followers while he was delinquent on child support.”

Bryce paid off $1,257 in child support debt on Aug. 31, two months after his campaign for congress was announced. Despite being unwilling or unable to pay child support, Bryce purchased fake Twitter followers in an attempt to increase his social media presence.

Ironically, Hitt’s reputation as a political communications expert was the result of controlling the Twitter account of Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, who was known for Trump-like Twitter outbursts. This became more ironic when Bryce was criticized for a Twitter post attacking Ivanka Trump which some have labeled “sexist.”

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, it’s unclear when Hitt jumped ship to the Nixon campaign. However, she began posting on Twitter for Nixon starting on Monday. Hitt’s Twitter profile also lists her as, “Previously Comms Director @Ironstache.”

Nixon is challenging Governor Chris Cuomo for the Democratic nomination for governor in New York. She is most widely known as an actress who played Miranda Hobbes, a character on the racy HBO series Sex in the City.

Ironically, Bryce had attracted support from Hollywood stars like Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman when Ryan was thought to be running for re-election. Bryce’s campaign even spent money advertising in California in an effort to build support for his campaign. Now that Ryan is no longer running for re-election, it is unknown how much outside support there will be for Bryce going forward.

Hitt’s departure comes at a time when Bryce’s campaign is dealing with falsely claiming endorsements he did not receive, including from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-MA), Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA).

Bryce is competing with Cathy Myers, a Janesville school board member and a teacher, for the Democratic nomination in the 1st Congressional District. Despite his fundraising advantage, mostly from out-of-state contributions, a number of Democrats are questioning whether Bryce should be the Democratic nominee.
