An Federal Election Commission (FEC) report says U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin received $179,701.99 in excess campaign contributions, according to Media Trackers. Now Baldwin is returning at least some of those contributions.
The contributions exceeding the campaign finance law limits include $94,802 in individual contributions and $73,900 from campaign committees. Among those individuals contributing more than federal election law allows are former Wisconsin Democratic Governor Jim Doyle and former Democratic U.S. Senator Herb Kohl.
“The original FEC inquiry to the Baldwin Campaign Committee stated that although the FEC may take further legal action concerning the acceptance of prohibited contributions, prompt action to refund the prohibited amount will be taken into consideration,” Media Trackers reports.
The Baldwin campaign’s response to the FEC did not indicate how much of the contributions exceeding the limits allowed by federal campaign finance law will be returned.
